How it works
Choose your collection frequency—bi-weekly or monthly—based on the volume of items your household generates.
Each Earthub Bin Kit includes a bin with lid, a bin weight, and category bags. There are two bin types available: Basic and Premium. Depending on the type you choose, your kit will include either 5 or 6 category bags:
10x13cm - Plastic Tags
13x18cm - Metals and Crayons + Tubes
20x30cm - Plastic Bottle Caps and Pill Bottles
30x40cm - Multilayer + Film Plastics
Your subscription includes a variety of collection items such as egg cartons, lip balm tubes, plastic films, electronics, multilayer plastics, and more. For a full list, please refer to the collection guide provided by Earthub upon purchasing your subscription.
Collect the applicable items for your Earthub Bin.
Place your Earthub Bin outside your front door the night before your collection day.
Once you order your Earthub Bin, we'll confirm your designated collection day. You will receive your personalized collection dates for all of 2025! Please ensure your Earthub Bin is placed outside your front door on collection day. Unfortunately, we are unable to service apartment or condo buildings at this time.
Earthub distributes a variety of items back to the community for reuse and sends your hard-to-recycle items to trusted recycling companies. We’ve partnered with Velanidi, Greentec, HydroBlox, Lemons Loot, and are working to form additional partnerships with other reputable companies specializing in hard-to-recycle plastics!
Your items will be either reused or properly recycled!

REGION
Currently, we offer our services to single and multi-family homes in Ottawa with accessible front door access, within boundaries defined by your postal code. At this time, we are unable to provide service to apartment buildings, as Earthub Bins must be placed directly outside your front door. If you purchase a subscription without having accessible front-door pick-up, we can cancel your subscription; however, please note that we are unable to offer refunds for this oversight.
COLLECTION DAY
As part of our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint, specific days of the week will be designated for collections in certain neighbourhoods. Collections will take place in the morning, between 5:30 am and 4:00 pm. (The Earthub Bin should be left out the night before. If you're one of the few areas that has a scheduled pick-up time in the afternoon, we will notify you in advance.) You will receive further details about your collection day after completing your subscription purchase. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
RETURN & REFUND POLICY
The Earthub subscription service is a final sale upon sign-up. You will be automatically charged for an additional month following your initial subscription. To cancel your subscription, please email accounting@earthub.ca so we can arrange the pick-up of your Earthub Bin, weight, and item category bags. All Bin equipment is the property of Earthub. If not returned within 30 days of cancellation, a charge of $35 will be applied to the credit card on file. If payment fails, an invoice for the equipment will be sent. Please note that subscription cancellations must be made at least 10 days prior to the next scheduled pick-up.
TRANSPARENCY
At Earthub, we value transparency when it comes to your materials. While forming partnerships with reputable recycling companies specializing in hard-to-recycle plastics takes time, we cannot make official announcements until they are finalized. Once these partnerships are in place, whether through reuse or proper recycling, we will always share where your materials are going.
COLLECTION ITEMS
All acceptable collection items must be clean and dry. Any items that are dirty or wet will be left behind. If Earthub notices an excessive amount of dirty, incorrect, or wet items in your collection, we will contact you. Continued violations may result in the cancellation of your subscription. Earthub will collect only the item category bags placed in your Bin. Overflow items will not be accepted (except for egg cartons and acceptable electronics). However, households can purchase an add-on bag through our website if their volume exceeds the designated category bag.
CARBON FOOTPRINT
At Earthub, we are committed to reducing carbon emissions as much as possible. We have carefully developed our routes to minimize emissions while staying true to our sustainable values. When your Earthub Bin is not placed out on your scheduled pick-up day, it results in unnecessary emissions from our team. We understand that life can get busy, and it's easy to forget. However, after the first occurrence, a $5 charge will apply to cover the additional fuel and time involved if your Bin is not out on your scheduled pick-up day. If you need to skip a pick-up, please refer to your welcome package provided upon purchase.
